Driving Instructor Training Courses
Driving Instructor Training and P.D.I Training - Over 21 - Held
Licence for 3 1/2 years
A career as a Driving Instructor (ADI) suits men
& women of all ages and walks of life. No
experience is necessary, as long as you have
held a UK or EEC licence for at least 3 1/2
years you can start Driving Instructor Training
straight away.

More than 6 points on your licence may prohibit

THE DRIVING INSTRUCTOR QUAIFYING EXAM COMES IN THREE PARTS
Part 1 -The Theory and Hazard perception Test
HOME BASED LEARNING
This is a computer touch screen test of 100
questions [ 4 sections of 25 questions] and a
computerised video hazard perception test
consisting of 14 clips each lasting 1 minute. 15
scoreable hazards [1 clip containing 2 hazards]
(Pass mark of 85 and above)
Hazard Perception Test
(Pass Mark 57 and above)
Part 2 Driving Test IN CAR TRAINING. [one on
one]
The driving test is approximately 1 hours
long,you must show that you can read a number
plate from a distance of 90 feet.
You will need to answer 5 TELL ME SHOW ME
QUESTIONS e.g Show me how you would check that
the headlights and tail lights are
working?ANSWER operate the switch [turn on the
ignition if necessary],walk round the vehicle.
The Driving Test
It is an advanced driving test and a high
standard of competence is requiried.You must
show you have a thorough knowledge of the
principles of good driving and road safety.You
must show:
- Expert handling of the controls
- Use of correct road procedure
- Anticipation of actions of other road users
and taking appropriate action
- Sound judgement of distance, speed and timing
- Consideration for the safety of other road
users.
The routes used for the test will include
motorway or dual carriageways, town and country
roads to cover a wide range of road and traffic
conditions.
You must also show the ability to carry out the
following manoeuvres.
- Move away straight ahead, up - downhill or at
an angle
- Overtake, meet and cross the path of other
traffic without undue hesitancy
- Stop the car as in an emergency
- Reverse into a limited opening to the left and
the right
- Reverse Park
- Turn the car around using forward and reverse
gears
- You are only allowed to incur a maximum of 6
minor faults
Part 3 Ability to Instruct IN CAR TRAINING [one
on one]
The test lasts about 1 hour and is designed to
assess whether you can give instruction to a
pupil in a worthwhile, and a clearly understood
manner. You will need to supply a suitable car
but not a pupil. The examiner will assess your
ability by role playing the part of the learner
pupil.The test is in two parts each part lasts
approximately 1/2 hour. 1st part you will be
asked to give instructions suitable for a
beginner or partly trained pupil. In the 2nd
part you will need to give instruction to a
trained pupil or of about test standard.
Course covering the following subjects.
- Cockpit drill Use of the controls, including
dual controls.
- Moving off and stopping.
- Approach to turn left and right.
- Emerging at "T" junctions.
- Use of mirrors.
- Emergency stop.
- Use of signals.
- Pedestrian crossings.
- Crossroads.
- Allow adequate clearance and anticipation.
- Meet/cross/overtake.
- Turn in the road.
- Reverse to the left and right.
- Reverse park.
COURSE FEES
A PAYMENT OF £350-00 IS REQUIRIED AT THE START
OF THE COURSE TO COVER ALL THE MATERIALS
SUPPLIED AND ADMIN COSTS [ part one course
included].
PART TWO in car driving course
5x2 hour sessions @ £30-00 per hour.
PART THREE in car course.
20x2 hour sessions @ £30-00 per hour.
