Motorway
Motorways are high speed, multi-laned roads
where the two carriageways are seperated by a
central reservation.
They demand particular skills, including:
- EFFECTIVE OBSERVATION, using your mirrors and
checking your blind spots.
- JUDGEMENT AND PLANNING Ahead.
- A SAFE SEPARATION DISTANCE.
- USE OF SLIP ROADS when joining and leaving the
motorway.
- OVERTAKING AND LANE DISCIPLINE.
- CORRECT USE OF SPEED.
When you pass your test you are free to drive
along the motorway. Few people feel prepared for
this as you are given no practical motorway
instruction while taking normal lessons. Why not
try a two hour motorway session after you pass
just to make it a more familiar situation.
